Shooting Surveillance
A cleaner working in a small hall is trapped in a time loop, witnessing his own murder repeatedly on CCTV without realizing it. Each time he dies, the loop resets, and he continues his duties, unaware of his fate. As the cycle repeats, he begins to sense something is wrong but remains unable to escape the inevitable.
Shooting Surveillance was an exciting yet challenging experience, especially as a small brand navigating the complexities of public filming. One of the biggest hurdles we faced was filming scenes involving a prop gun in a public setting. While it was crucial to the story, we had to use the prop in an area with no members of the public. The presence of a weapon, even if it was a prop, can stir anxiety and concern, drawing unwanted attention from the public and raising concerns about safety. During the filming process, we also faced the challenge of having both of us outside at the same time, leaving the camera rolling inside pointing to the CCTV screens. We had to set up the framing of the shot before we ran outside to act out the scene, before returning inside to watch the shot back. Another challenge was lighting the one-take tracking shot with multiple colours, whilst also keeping the rooms dark enough to retain suspense. Shooting was a success as well as a great opportunity to acquire new filmmaking knowledge and experience.
